DISTRICT OF LUNENBURG ACQUIRES LAND FOR PUBLIC ACCESS TO SHERBROOKE LAKE

Council is very pleased to announce the municipality has purchased waterfront land on Sherbrooke Lake for the purpose of developing a municipal park.
“Providing a public park on Sherbrooke Lake is a strategic priority for this Council” said Mayor Downe. “This purchase is a major step in achieving a community goal that has existed for decades”.

The property is accessed from the Woodstock Road in Walden, and includes over 30 acres of land with more than 500 feet of waterfrontage. The site was chosen based on a unanimous recommendation from the Sherbrooke Lake Access Advisory Committee.

The advisory committee submitted their final report to MODL Council in June. The report included numerous recommendations focused on how to protect the lake environment and guide the development of public access for all.

The committee’s report was based on extensive public consultation, led by the planning firm UPLAND, and incorporated input from over 1,000 individuals.
Municipal staff are preparing an implementation report to help council address the recommendations included in the Committee’s final report and will be completing detailed site design work for the park in the coming year.
