The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Town of Bridgewater have been working cooperatively together to see this project realized. Mayor Don Downe is happy to see this project break ground and stated, "This project is a huge catalyst for our economy as well as the social and physical well being for all of Lunenburg County. It is an investment in Lunenburg County's present and future. The ground breaking is one of the major milestones in this project. It took a long time to get here, but with both Councils' hard work, determination, and co-operation, it will happen."

The total project cost is estimated at $33.4 million, with the Government of Canada contributing up to one third of the eligible costs to a maximum of $10.35 million from the Major Infrastructure Component of the Building Canada Fund.
