Adopt a Highway
Community groups can channel their energy into beautifying their area by joining the Adopt a Highway Program. The program engages groups in the collection of litter along roadsides and route interchanges. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal provide groups with equipment and assists with the pick up and disposal of collected litter in Lunenburg County. Approximately 31 groups from the Lunenburg and Queens county area participate yearly!
During the 2011 Spring litter clean up, groups collected 3695 bags of garbage and 253 bags of recyclables which amounted to 59.6 tonnes of litter!
The program is entering its 20th year. For more information about the Adopt a Highway program, click here.
