Public Statement from Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson
In response to input from the public, the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg has stopped the Flood Risk project. The flood risk map is no longer available.
I want to thank residents for their thoughtful feedback on this issue. Information provided by residents assisted us in our conversations with the Province of Nova Scotia and the engineering firm that conducted the modelling to recognise the need to stop all work on Flood Risk engagement and regulations.
Council has concerns that the mapping areas were painted with too wide a brush, and not with a fine enough level of detail to develop regulations. The Municipality will be sending a letter to the Province stating that the Municipality will not be proceeding with flood risk land-use regulation as part of the MODL2040 project.
On behalf of myself and Council, I apologize for any distress or confusion this may have caused property owners and thank residents for bringing forward their concerns.
