If you're eager to contribute to your community, consider joining one of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg's volunteer fire departments. Dedicated volunteers staff all 23 fire stations across the municipality, helping protect residents, property, and communities every day.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteers are vital to protecting our communities. And you don't need to fight fires to make a difference.
Whether you want to:
- Respond to emergencies
Drive fire apparatus
Support training activities
Assist with administration and finances
Help with fundraising and community events
there is a role for almost anyone who wants to serve their community.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Firefighters
There are three general levels of volunteer firefighter:
Interior Firefighter
Has the required training and experience to participate in all fireground activities, including interior fire suppression.
Exterior Firefighter
Participates in fireground operations but does not perform interior fire suppression activities.
Support Firefighter
Performs important operational and support duties that do not include fire suppression.
Individual departments may have additional training and membership requirements.
Auxiliary and Associate Members
Not all volunteers are firefighters.
Many departments need support with:

- Fundraising
- Community outreach
- Event planning
- Public education
Contact your local fire department to learn how you can help.
Junior Firefighters
