Public Notice - Special Council meeting - April 2, 2024

A Special Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in place of the regularly scheduled Finance Committee meeting.  

This meeting will be to review the proposed 2024-2025 Municipal budget.

Proclamation - Royal Canadian Air Force

April 1, 2024 will mark the 100th year anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).  Mayor Bolivar-Getson recognized the RCAF and honoured those who have served and those who continue to serve, and encouraged residents to join in ceremonies to commemorate the history of the RCAF.

Proclamation - Purple Day - March 26, 2024

March 26, 2024 was proclaimed as Purple Day in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg to increase understanding, reduct stigma, and improve the quality of life for people with epilepsy throughout the country and globally.

Planning Advisory Committee Meeting - February 22

PLANNING ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Public Meeting Notice: Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

A meeting of the Municipality’s Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024, starting at 7:00 p.m. at 10 Allee Champlain Drive, Cookville, Nova Scotia. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the following matters:

(1) Substantial Alteration to a Municipal Heritage Property - New Elm Union Church - to add a wheelchair ramp.
(2) Accessibility Amendments to Policy 027- Heritage Property Policy
(3) Any other planning matters.

All PAC meetings are open to the public and the public are encouraged to attend. For further information, please contact Jeff Merrill, Director of Planning & Development Services at 902-541-1340.

Heritage Day Closure: Monday, February 19

Please note: The Municipal Services Building will be closed on Monday, February 19 for Heritage Day.

Pan African Flag Raising

Members of the public are invited to join Council and staff at the raising of the Pan-African flag at our Municipal building on Thursday, February 1 at noon in celebration of African Heritage Month.

Meeting Cancellations & Holiday Closures

The Policy & Strategy Committee meeting of December 19, 2023 and the Finance Committee meeting of January 2, 2024 are cancelled.

The Municipal Services Building office hours are as follows:

December 20 - Close at 3:00 p.m.

December 21 - Open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

December 22 to January 1 - Closed for the Holidays

January 2 - Regular office hours resume

Proclamation - Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Month

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson proclaimed the month of November 2023 as Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Month in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg. 

Canada has one of the highest prevalence rates in the world of people living with an inflammatory bowel disease where more than 270,000 Canadians suffer with the disease with Atlantic Canada having the highest rate in the country.

Waste Collection Day Change: Several Roads Maitland & Sweetland Area

Waste Collection Day Change: Several Roads Maitland & Sweetland Area

Waste collection day for several roads in the Sweetland and Maitland areas will change from bi-weekly Thursday to bi-weekly Wednesday pick ups. The new collection day is identified as Wednesday non-shaded in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg’s Solid Waste Collection Calendar.

Collection day is being switched to make waste collection more efficient in the area. The first day of Wednesday non-shaded collection will be October 4, 2023 and will continue every two weeks. The change to Wednesday pick up will be permanent. Roads affected include:

Sweetland Road

Aulenback Point Road

Station Road

Joudrey Lane

Moyle Mader Road

Corduroy Road

Sand Shore Lane

Back Street #2

Slauenwhite Beach Road

October 4 will be curbside electronics collection day for these roads.

Audit Committee Meeting - September 26, 2023

Please be advised that the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg will be holding an Audit Committee meeting on September 26, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers at 10 Allee Champlain Drive, Cookville.  This meeting is to review Treasurer's Financial Statement Report and the draft Audited Financial Statements to Year end March 31, 2023, and further, to make recommendation to Council.
