Office Closure Update
As a reminder, the MODL Municipal Services Building closed to the public until further notice. Services are still available remotely.
If you need assistance, please call our main telephone line at (902) 543-8181 or visit our Contact Us page at modl.ca/contact.html to locate contact information for the person you need to contact. Emails and calls will be returned promptly.
Tax payments can be submitted online, via telephone banking, by mail, in person at your bank, or by dropping a cheque off in our drop box at the Municipal Services Building. Please do not deposit cash in the drop box. For assistance with paying your taxes or to receive a receipt, please call (902) 541-1329.
Council and Committee Meetings
All Council and Committee Meetings will be held virtually, with recordings available after the meeting at modl.ca.
Planning and Building Inspections
Planning and Building Inspections will continue offering services remotely. Visit modl.ca/building.html and use the menu on the left to locate the forms you need. You can submit these forms by email, fax, mail, or the building’s drop box.
All recreation classes and programs are paused. Parks and trails that have been opened for the season are still available for use. Please continue to enjoy spaces in your community safely.
2021/22 Budget Meetings
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg will be holding the following Special Council meetings to deal with the proposed 2021-22 MODL Budget:
• Tuesday, May 4, 2021 – 9:00 a.m. – review draft 2021-22 Operating and Capital Budget
• Tuesday, May 11, 2021 – 11:00 a.m. – presentation of proposed 2021-22 Municipal Budget
The public does not have access to these meetings in-person while they are in session, but they will be livestreamed via Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/MODLns. The audio recording of the meetings will be posted on the webpage within 24 hours of the meetings. The agendas will be posted on our agenda page.
Date Change: Planning Advisory Committee Meeting
The Planning Advisory Committee meeting date has changed. The meeting, originally scheduled for April 22, will now take place on Thursday, April 29, starting at 7:00 p.m. via Facebook Page Live Video.
A regular meeting of the Municipality’s Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, 2021, starting at 7:00 p.m. via Facebook Page Live Video. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the following matters:
(1) The Villas at Osprey Ridge (By-laws 005C and 006C: Amendments to Lunenburg Municipal Industrial Zone Secondary Planning Strategy and Land Use By-law)
(2) MODL2040 Update
(3) Any other planning matters.
Notice of Special Meetings - April 20, 2021
Two Special Meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Special Council Meeting
A Special Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to hold an appeal regarding a variance approval for a property located at 90 Eisenhauer Road in Oakland. The public does not have access to this meeting while it is in session, but the recording of the meeting will be posted on the webpage within 24 hours of the meeting. Special Finance Committee Meeting
A Special Finance Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to review the draft 2021-22 Capital Budget. The public does not have access to this meeting while it is in session, but the recording of the meeting will be posted on the webpage within 24 hours of the meeting. Proposed Bill 4 - Biodiversity Act Letter to Minister
Council heard from concerned citizens of the Province’s proposed Bill 4 – Biodiversity Act and agreed to write to the Minister with these concerns. A copy of the letter can be found by clicking pdf 2021-03-23 Letter to Province (1.12 MB) .
Public Notice: 2021 Annual Rate Payer Meetings Waived
Due to COVD-19 and restrictions on gatherings, MODL Council has again waived the requirement for the 2021 Annual Ratepayer meetings if your fire tax remains unchanged or is lower than the previous year. Any ratepayer meetings taking place shall follow current Health Department Guidelines. A copy of each fire department’s budget is available by contacting the listed person for any given fire department.

Holiday Closure - Good Friday and Easter Monday
The Municipal Services Building will be closed on Good Friday (April 2) and Easter Monday (April 5). We will reopen on Tuesday, April 6.
Proclamation - Purple Day for Epilepsy
In an effort to raise awareness for Epilepsy, the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg has proclaimed March 26, 2021 as PURPLE DAY.

Notice of Special Council Meeting – January 19, 2021
A Special Council meeting will be held immediately following the Policy & Strategy Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. The purpose of the meeting is to consider the procedure for the 2021 Tax Sale. The public does not have access to this meeting while it is in session, but the recording of the meeting will be posted on the webpage within 24 hours of the meeting. The agenda will be posted here when available.
Thursday, December 17 Municipal Services Building Closure

Water Quality Monitoring Expert Volunteer Needed
The Sherbrooke Lake Stewardship Committee oversees the implementation of the water quality monitoring program at Sherbrooke Lake to aid in the evidence-based decisions concerning the development of the properties acquired by MODL for public use.
MODL is seeking applications from interested community members to serve on the Sherbrooke Lake Stewardship Committee. The vacancy is for an on-going volunteer member with professional knowledge of the techniques of water quality monitoring.
This vacancy will be advertised until filled.

Planning Advisory Committee Seeks New Members
The Municipality is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to serve as a member of the Municipality’s Planning Advisory Committee. This is an exciting opportunity for those people who would like to actively participate in the MODL2040 project, where we plan the entire Municipality for the next 20 years – visit https://www.modl.ca/municipal-planning-strategy.html for more information.
PAC also advises Municipal Council on land use planning issues, which include zoning, complex development applications, and municipal heritage properties. Meetings are normally conducted on the fourth Thursday of every month, starting at 7:00 p.m. Members-at-large of the PAC receive an honorarium per meeting plus travel expense.
One (1) member-at-large appointment is open between January 2021 to November 2021, and two (2) member-at-large appointments are open between January 2021 to November 2022, both with the possibility of reappointment.
