Residents invited to first Community Open House
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg has officially proclaimed November 1–7, 2026, as Municipal Awareness Week, recognizing the essential role local government plays in delivering the programs, services, infrastructure, and support that help our communities thrive every day.
To celebrate, residents are invited to attend the District of Lunenburg’s first-ever Community Open House—a relaxed, interactive event centered on the theme "Supper's On. Let's Chat."
"Municipal Awareness Week is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the programs, services, projects, and people that keep our communities running," said Mayor Elspeth McLean-Wile. "Our Community Open House is a chance for residents to meet Council, staff, and community partners, discover what their municipality can do for them, and continue the conversation about the future of our region."
Attendees can explore informative displays and speak directly with municipal staff across various departments, including Planning and Development, Building Inspection, Engineering, Recreation, Communications, Emergency Management, Energy Programs, and Business Development.
In addition to municipal services, several key community partners will be participating:
- LC Wheels: Featuring an accessible vehicle display and information about local community transit services.
- Northfield and District Fire Department: Showcasing their apparatus and providing information on volunteer firefighting roles.
- Lunenburg County REMO: Offering emergency preparedness resources and the chance to win a 72-Hour Emergency Preparedness Kit.
- South Shore Waste Solutions & Region 6 Solid Waste Management: Conducting waste-sorting demonstrations, recycling guidance, and practical diversion tips.
Guests can enjoy complimentary light fare and refreshments provided by Hustle & Bustle Catering while they chat with staff, Council members, and community leaders. Whether you have questions about local projects, want to learn more about recreation programs, or simply want to meet the team serving your community, there will be something for everyone.
